liquid lunch in the lovenest

I love my Vitamix. I would marry it and make its babies if I could. Besides my favorite Rag & Bone boots, it is absolutely the best $500 I ever spent. I know what you’re saying to yourself — $500?! For a blender?! That was my first thought too when my friend Jackie recommended it. But trust. I watched the hour-long QVC infomercial and I was hooked. I bought it. I have yet to regret one penny of it.
It does EVERYTHING.
My favorite thing it does — and the real reason I bought it in the first place — is it juices veggies, from whole. I love me some green juice. And if you’re a girl trying to get the man in your life to eat healthier, this is the best way — because it’s so easy. You can pack so much veggie goodness into one drink. And you can sweeten it up for them too with fruit or a touch of fruit juice, like I did today with this mix: kale, cucumber, strawberries, flax oil, orange juice and ice cubes.

stunning rooftop garden @ rosemary’s
Everything about this neighborhood gem was perfect, then I walked up the stairs to the stunning rooftop garden @ Rosemary’s and fell even more in love.
If you haven’t been, I highly recommend.
Now I want to grow my own veggies — or, more likely, start an herb garden on the windowsill.

cutest dumplings ever

There is very good reason why, when RedFarm opens each night at 5 p.m., there is already a queue of people waiting to get inside. The food tastes just as spectacular as it looks.
Evidence A: these dumplings, begging to be blogged.
my first time making paella — in spain!

I could write an entire food blog just about our week in Spain — and how we ate our way through Barcelona, Girona and Sitges.
Instead, I’ll let you feast your eyes on this: me! cooking paella! along the beach!
Not a bad life.
valentine’s day is for (red food) lovers
How cute is B? For Valentine’s Day he got me a red bag, filled with all red food. You can see our entire romantical day here.
But can you guess which food is my absolute favorite?
Also: the “You” scribbled on the card — is that:
a) one of his sweet pet names for me
b) one of those new acronyms the kids are using these days
c) what he wrote so he could use this gift on any girl
my first time really truly cooking for B
Valentine’s Day 2012: I invited B over to my apartment for a special, home-cooked meal — a big deal since I had never cooked for him before.
I made his favorites: scallops + Brussels sprouts and what he thought were mashed potatoes, but was really mashed cauliflower. A little trickery in the kitchen never hurt anyone.
